The Lily Center
The Lily Center was founded in 2022 by Lillian Gumz Joseph, LCSW. Lily specializes in working with children, adolescents, and adults who are experiencing mental health challenges and/or life transitions. Her approach to individual therapy is to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. She aims to help clients overcome their current challenges and to equip them with lifelong skills for future problem solving. She uses a collaborative theoretical approach, including evidence-based practices that facilitate change.
Although her primary focus is individual client counseling, Lily is trained as a Youth Mental Health First Aid Instructor and serves as a consultant to schools in both Virginia and New York. In her work as a YMHFA instructor, she trains faculty to identify mental health and/or student counseling needs in their classrooms to try to ensure early and appropriate intervention when needed. Prior to opening The Lily Center, Lily spent 13 years working with children, adolescents, and their families in clinical and school-based settings.
Lily is licensed as a Clinical Social Worker in New York and Virginia. She earned her Master of Social Work from New York University's Silver School of Social Work and an Advanced Certificate in Relational Psychoanalytic Approaches with Children and Adolescents from the National Institute for Psychotherapies.
Born and raised in the New York Metropolitan area, Lily moved to New York City after graduating from College and lived there for 12 years before moving to Charlottesville, VA with her husband and son.
